Lead

Even at low levels, exposure is linked to neurological damage, particularly affecting brain development in children and cardiovascular health in adults. Because lead is colorless and odorless, analytical screening is an essential first step in baselining your residential water chemistry.

Nitrates

Oxygen & Blood Health

Nitrates are often a result of fertilizer runoff or septic leakage. Clinical research indicates that high levels are a serious health concern because they interfere with the blood’s ability to carry oxygen. This is especially critical for infants, where it can lead to "blue baby syndrome" (methemoglobinemia).

Manganese

Neurological & Aesthetic Impact

Manganese is a mineral that, in high concentrations, has been linked to adverse neurological effects. Beyond health, it can cause blackish staining on surfaces and a bitter, chemical taste in your drinking water.

While iron is an essential nutrient, high levels in your water cause significant "nuisance" issues. It is responsible for stubborn orange or brown staining on laundry and fixtures and can impart a harsh metallic taste to drinking water and food.

Dissolved Solids

Water Purity & Taste

TDS (total dissolved solids) represents the total concentration of dissolved substances in your water. While not a single pollutant, a high TDS reading is a primary indicator of overall mineral content and purity. High levels often result in a "salty" or bitter taste and can leave spots on glassware.

How we analyze your sample: Our in-house lab uses spectrophotometry to measure chemical markers including Fluoride, Chlorine, and Iron. Lead and other trace metals are measured using anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) — a high-sensitivity electrochemical method used in environmental and academic research settings. Dissolved solids and conductivity are measured with calibrated Thermo Scientific probes. These are not test strips. These are not colorimetric dip cards. This is instrument-based analysis.

Why is the screening offered at no cost?

For qualifying households in select areas, the laboratory screening fee is waived through our network of vetted water specialists and a broader residential water-quality mapping effort.

This means eligible households may request a mail-in kit without paying the lab analysis fee. Return postage of $10.25 is not included.

Availability depends on your area and current program participation.

When is my analysis result profile released?

Once your sample enters our lab, the analytical screening is completed within 3 to 5 business days.

You will receive a secure Informational Profile that baselines every analyte against environmental benchmarks and infrastructure-resilience standards.

What is included in the lab analysis?

Our analysis goes beyond basic surface tests. We screen for critical factors including Lead, Iron, Fluoride, Nitrate, Manganese, Hardness, and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).

These insights help you understand exactly what is in your water and how it interacts with your household wellness.

How are sub-optimal findings addressed?

If your results show elevated contaminants, your Report of Findings will include plain-language context for each marker — what the levels mean, and what the Health Guideline range is.
