What is the analytical protocol for the mail-in screening?

It’s a streamlined process. Once you request a kit, we mail it directly to your home. You’ll follow our analytical protocol to collect a tap water sample, then use the provided protective packaging to mail it to our lab via your preferred carrier. Our laboratory then performs an analytical screening of your eight environmental markers.

Why is the screening offered at no cost?

For qualifying households in select areas, the laboratory screening fee is waived through our network of vetted water specialists and a broader residential water-quality mapping effort.

This means eligible households may request a mail-in kit without paying the lab analysis fee. Return postage is not included.

Availability depends on your area and current program participation.

When is my analysis result profile released?

Once your sample enters our analytical lab, the analytical screening is completed within 3 to 5 business days. You will receive a secure Informational Profile that baselines every analyte against environmental benchmarks and infrastructure-resilience standards.

How are sub-optimal findings addressed?

If your results show elevated contaminants, your Report of Findings will include plain-language context for each marker — what the levels mean, and what the Health Guideline range is.

How does an analytical lab screening differ from standard portable kits?

Standard portable kits — test strips, colorimetric cards, basic dip tests — are useful for rough estimates of hardness or pH, but they lack the sensitivity to detect trace contaminants accurately.

Our in-house analysis uses three instrument-based methods:
Spectrophotometry — measures light absorption to quantify chemical markers like Fluoride, Chlorine, Nitrate, and Iron with high precision
Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (ASV) — an electrochemical method that is one of the most sensitive techniques available for detecting trace metals like Lead, even at very low concentrations
Thermo Scientific probes — calibrated instruments for measuring Total Dissolved Solids, conductivity, and related markers

How is my personal data and environmental profile governed?

Data integrity and privacy are foundational to our protocol. Your water profile and contact information are never shared. We strictly prohibit the distribution or sale of your data to third-party lead networks. Your information is accessible only to the laboratory technicians performing the analysis and the independent specialist designated to review your results, if you choose.
